Global Pay
A sanitized, conceptual case study inspired by real constraints I designed for.

problem
Global Pay is a cross-border remittance app built for Africans in the diaspora who send money home to support family, friends, and businesses. When I joined the team, the mobile app was functional but not yet user-ready: the visual direction was inconsistent, the UI lacked hierarchy, and there was no unified design system to ensure cohesion across screens. Important flows such as onboarding, identity verification, recipient selection, and sending money felt fragmented. Key interactions like modals, bottom sheets, confirmations, and error states, were handled differently across the app, reducing predictability and increasing cognitive load for users who simply wanted a quick, safe send experience. Because remittance users value trust, clarity, and speed, these issues created friction: the product didn’t feel stable or polished enough to instill confidence, especially for first-time users evaluating a new money-transfer service.
solution
I redesigned the Global Pay mobile experience from the foundation up, creating a cohesive, branded, and intuitive interface aligned with the product’s core promise: send money home simply, securely, and swiftly. First, I introduced a full color system that balanced trust (deep neutrals, calm blues) with Global Pay’s caregiver archetype (soft, warm accent colors). This became the basis for visual hierarchy, accessibility, status indications, and interactive states. Next, I built a typography scale optimized for mobile readability, allowing for clearer section headers, scannable forms, and consistent hierarchy across all screens. I designed a complete component library including buttons, input fields, modals, bottom sheets, navigation patterns, cards, step indicators, and success/error states. This system allowed the team to scale new features rapidly while maintaining consistency. The user flows were rebuilt with simplicity and predictability in mind. I refined: Onboarding → clearer steps, simplified KYC screens, interactive illustrations Home dashboard → instant visibility of balance + send options Recipient management → cleaner layout, quicker access to frequent recipients Send flow → streamlined steps, better validation, more intuitive currency selection Confirmation & receipts → clearer summaries, trust-building details I also introduced micro-interactions and modal patterns that reduced confusion, guided users through key decisions, and reinforced a sense of safety throughout the transaction journey. The result is a unified, trustworthy, and emotionally resonant mobile app that communicates stability while feeling distinctly African and human. The improved hierarchy, systemized components, and smoother flows make Global Pay feel polished, reliable, and ready for market even as an unlaunched product.
